As part of the rich history of the Hutton Ethics Lectureship, Dr. Robert Klitzman, Columbia University Professor of Psychiatry, will discuss themes from his book Doctor, Will You Pray for Me?

The Hutton Lectureship in Ethics was established in 2004 by the Hutton family and the UC College of Medicine to honor John J. Hutton, MD, former dean of the college. The lecture series encourages the cultivation and maintenance of the highest standards of personal medical ethics, helping to build respect and trust for and among researchers at UC. Dr. Klitzman's talk will explore illness, death, and dying from the perspective of patient and their families, and from medical professionals, illuminate the vital role that Chaplains play in hospitals for a generally under-informed public, and offer a path forward for chaplains, healthcare providers, and patients and their families to address illness and spirituality more fully and effectively in their own lives and the lives of others.

College of Pharmacy Career Fair

The James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy is pleased to announce its inaugural Career Fair, which will be held in the Medical Sciences Building on April 17. This landmark event marks the first time the College has organized a comprehensive forum bringing together leaders from both the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries with members of our academic community.

The program will begin with student research poster presentations and industry networking from 10 am to 12 pm, with posters displayed throughout Kresge Circle. Both Doctor of Pharmacy and graduate students will participate, creating a dynamic environment for scholarly exchange and professional engagement. The afternoon session, scheduled from 1 pm to 3 pm, will feature keynote addresses followed by a roundtable panel discussion with distinguished speakers from leading cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies. Concurrent industry-specific sessions will be held as follows:

  • Room E161 – Cosmetic industry representatives
  • Room E261 – Pharmaceutical industry representatives.

This inaugural event underscores the College’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, advancing research, and strengthening partnerships between academia and industry.

Frank Gerner, PhD

UC Interim Vice President for Research Frank Gerner and Interim Provost John Weidner will conclude Research + Innovation Week 2026 by recognizing exceptional faculty achievements at the Annual Award Ceremony. Faculty members nominated by college leadership will receive awards for faculty excellence and research mentoring, accompanied by $1,500 in professional development funds to further their contributions in teaching, research, service, and leadership development. Additionally, the Vice President for Research will present the Office of Research Core Value Partnership Awards, honoring UC faculty and staff whose collaboration exemplifies respectfulness, positivity, and professionalism.

The Graduate College will also recognize recipients of two different awards: the Graduate Mentorship Awards and the Graduate Student Research Awards. The Graduate Mentorship Awards honor faculty and staff mentors who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the holistic personal and professional development of graduate students, and the Graduate Student Research Awards recognize outstanding graduate students whose research and creative work demonstrate excellence in innovation, impact, and interdisciplinarity.

Acute Care Research Symposium

The Acute Care Research Council is bringing together expertise across the AHC to foster collaboration and empower ACR stakeholders amidst the ever-challenging risks that are unique to the acute care setting. Presentations included EFIC trials from CCHMC and UC, updates on changes to the Common Rule, Research vs. Critical Illness, and concluded with an audience-participation panel session.

The UC Innovation Quest Elevator Pitch Competition gave inventors & entrepreneurs the opportunity to present a short "elevator pitch" to investors in order to commercialize their ideas and launch start-up ventures.
