The University of Cincinnati Biosafety Office is responsible for performing risk assessments to identify hazards and to guide researchers in implementing safety practices and procedures to minimize or eliminate risks associated with research involving biohazardous or potentially biohazardous materials.

Electronic Biosafety Manual (eMANUAL)

This electronic manual consists of different modules intended to serve as a quick and interactive reference on biological safety matters.

Biotoxin Safety Guide

The Biotoxin Safety Guide was created with the intent of providing general guidance on the use of biological toxins. It is the PIs responsibility to train laboratory personnel on the individual agents and on the specific research techniques.

In addition to IBC-required trainings, the following online trainings are available:

  • Introduction to Biosafety Training provides an introduction to biological safety including definitions, risk assessment, principles, safe laboratory practices and incident response.
  • Lab Hazard Awareness Training provides general guidance on hazards (biological, chemical, radiological) that may be present in a research lab. It is a good source of information for facility maintenance personnel and new lab staff.
