UC is proud to host the Hutton Lectureship in Ethics as part of Research + Innovation Week 2024. The lecture, a key event that embodies our commitment to advancing medical and research ethics, is slated for Thursday, May 2nd, the fourth day of Research + Innovation Week. Established in 2004 to honor Dr. John J. Hutton, former Dean of the College of Medicine, the lectureship aims to foster a culture of ethical inquiry, consistent with the goals of Research2030 to maintain UC as the leading R1 urban university in our region.
The Hutton Lectureship boasts a distinguished history of distinguished speakers who tackle complex ethical issues thoughtfully and compassionately. Past speakers have included notable experts like Mildred Cho, Tom Beauchamp, and Art Caplan, who have all contributed to the high standards of personal and professional ethics championed by the lectureship. The Hutton Lectureship is a prime example of how UC is cultivating programs of excellence, ensuring that we continue to lead urban, public universities into a new era of innovation and impact.
This year, UC welcomes Dr. Ana S. Ilitis, Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Center for Bioethics, Health, and Society at Wake Forest University. Dr. Ilitis is renowned for her insightful work on bioethics, and her lecture, titled “Bringing a Health Equity Lens to Clinical Care and Research,” promises to address vital issues affecting our healthcare system today.
The lecture will be held on Zoom and will begin at 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 2nd. Register by May 1st! Please contact research@uc.edu for any questions.
