A Model of Mentorship

A Model of Mentorship

The Next Culture of Research is about respect and trust among researchers, as well as collaboration and mentorship. An Dr. Jonathan Kregorembodiment of this is the collaboration between CCM professor Dr. Kristy Swift and her mentor and CCM colleague, Dr. Jonathan Kregor. Their partnership exemplifies the power of mentorship in creating a positive and fruitful research relationship.

Dr. Kregor, who served as the first UC Office of Research Fellow, provided invaluable enthusiasm and guidance to Dr. Swift as she navigated the complexities of grant seeking. According to Dr. Swift, Dr. Kregor's approach goes beyond the typical mentor role — offering tailored advice, emotional support, and hands-on assistance throughout every stage of the application process. "Dr. Kregor is simply unmatched as a mentor," Dr. Swift explains. "His virtuosic writing and research skills are well-known, but it's his ability to walk with us step-by-step through the daunting application process that sets him apart."

This close-knit, collegial relationship was pivotal in Dr. Swift's research journey, ultimately leading to her securing a major Nationally Competitive Award (NCA) from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
