The Laboratory Safety Council, led by Dr. Allan Pinhas, has been instrumental in enhancing safety across research environments at UC. Comprising faculty and staff from a range of disciplines, the council is committed to improving the accessibility of vital safety resources for all researchers on campus.
A key achievement of the council has been the development of a centralized safety website, which consolidates essential tools and resources into a single, user-friendly platform. This website offers direct access to Environmental Health, Biological Safety, and Radiation Safety information, as well as training modules, accident reporting systems, waste disposal guidelines, and lab safety audits. By placing these resources in one location, the council has made it easier for researchers to stay informed and maintain compliance with safety protocols.
The council’s efforts were informed by feedback gathered through a university-wide survey, which highlighted the need for more streamlined access to safety information. With the website now in place, the council’s next priority is to improve training programs, ensuring that safety procedures remain clear, accessible, and effective across all research settings.
