For Dr. Charles Appeadu, an associate professor in the UC College of Business, the Fulbright Scholar Award Program offers an incredible opportunity to merge his expertise in finance with his deep-rooted connection to Ghana. This spring, Dr. Appeadu will
conduct research, teach graduate-level finance courses, and mentor students and junior faculty at The Catholic University of Ghana. His efforts will not only advance financial education in Ghana but also foster stronger collaborations between the
University of Cincinnati and African institutions of higher learning.
Dr. Appeadu’s journey is a remarkable full-circle story. Born in Ghana, where he first earned a degree in Civil Engineering, he has long been driven by a desire to give back to his homeland. “The Fulbright Scholar
Award allows me to continue giving back by educating future leaders in the financial sector,” Dr. Appeadu shares.
This work builds upon his earlier initiatives, including a 2021 Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship, during which he established teaching partnerships with faculty at two Ghanaian universities. Now, through his collaboration with The Catholic University
of Ghana, he will teach doctoral-level courses, mentor students, and serve on dissertation committees, further enhancing the academic and professional opportunities available to the next generation of leaders.
The Fulbright Scholar Award is transformative for both recipients and their host institutions. It empowers scholars like Dr. Appeadu to contribute meaningfully to global academic communities while gaining fresh perspectives that inspire their research
and teaching upon their return.
