Animal Care and Use Program

The University of Cincinnati Animal Care and Use Program is responsible for the regulatory and veterinary oversight of all research activities that involve animals within the institution

All Forms, Policies and Procedures are now located within Research How 2, where faculty and staff will find a centralized location for all their transactional needs.

The University of Cincinnati (UC) Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP) encompasses Laboratory Animal Medical Services (LAMS, the animal facilities) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) office.  We are committed to facilitating research and education while providing the highest quality animal care. Our program is fully AAALAC accredited and you can view our last USDA inspection report on the APHIS website. Additionally, boilerplate information for grant application submissions (including assurance numbers, expiration dates, and facility descriptions) is available.

Our ACUP offices oversee all activities conducted by or at the university that have a direct impact on animals which includes veterinary care, policies and procedures, personnel and program management and oversight, occupational health and safety, IACUC functions, and animal facility design and management.  We strive to support scientific advancement and teaching while maintaining full compliance.

Research How 2 icon IACUC Orientation & Facility Access

All Investigators and researchers must complete ACUP training and be added to an approved IACUC protocol before access to a LAMS animal housing area is granted by Public Safety.

Research Administration Portal (RAP)

This portal will be your central location for both protocol (IACUC component) and animal (Animal Operations/AOPs) management.

Occupational Health & Safety

Federal regulations require the University to have a health and safety program for all individuals with occupational exposure to animals
